Policy

Vehicle Sanitation

Al Ameery Transportation Services LLC shall ensure the interior of vehicles, including passenger areas, areas utilized for storage, equipment, and supplies within the vehicle are kept clean and sanitary.

To protect the safety of employees and the public, after a vehicle has been occupied by or used to transport a patient known or suspected to have a communicable disease, the vehicle shall, prior to transportation of another patient, be cleaned and all contact surfaces, equipment, and blankets shall be disinfected according to applicable standards set forth by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

PURPOSE:
To provide guidelines regarding the sanitation of vehicles.

PROCEDURE:

1. Employees including drivers and crew members are required to take Infection Control and Vehicle Sanitation Training at orientation and an annual refresher training.

2. All employees shall follow the company’s policy and related policies on Infection Control.

3. All employees shall practice Universal Precautions for infection control by:

a. Washing their hands in accordance with the company’s policy on “Hand Washing."

b. Using personal protective equipment, in accordance with the company's policies on “PPE-Personal Protective Equipment.”

c. Cleaning contaminated surfaces, in accordance with the company’s policy on “Blood and Body Spills.”    

d. Handling and disposing of contaminated material, in accordance with the company’s policies on sharp objects and contaminated objects, soiled clothing and blood and other bodily fluid spills.

4. Employees shall be provided with PPE such as gloves, gowns/aprons, and masks/protective goggles.

5. The driver and crew members assigned to a vehicle or the drive and crew members that regularly uses a vehicle shall ensure:

a. A disinfectant is applied to all contact surfaces at least weekly or after a vehicle has been occupied by or used to transport a patient known or suspected to have a communicable disease.

b. Contaminated surfaces shall be disinfected and cleaned immediately.

c. The vehicle interior including floor, walls, and equipment shall be free of stains, dirt, debris, and odors.

d. All interior surfaces shall be treated with stain resistant material.

e. Blankets, pillows, and mattresses shall be kept clean and in good shape. All pillows and mattresses shall have protective, waterproof and stain resistant covers.

f. Clean linens shall be utilized in the transport of stretcher patients. All linens shall be changed after each patient. Disposable linens may be utilized, so long as they are disposed of after each patient.

g. There shall be adequate, clean, dustproof storage for clean linens.

h. Plastic bags and/or covered containers or compartments shall be provided and shall be utilized for all soiled supplies (including linens and blankets) carried within the vehicle.

i. Non-disposable patient care equipment shall be decontaminated after each patient utilization in a manner consistent with the sending or receiving health care facility's requirements for equipment decontamination.

j. No device shall be utilized on more than one patient unless sterilized in accordance with manufacturers recommendations.    

k. Exterior surfaces of the vehicle shall be cleaned at a minimum weekly.

6. The manager shall inspect each vehicle at a minimum weekly to ensure compliance with our vehicle sanitation policy.
